Abstract

1439109 Tamperproof composite closure CONTINENTAL CAN CO Inc 5 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 52625/74 Heading B8T A tamperproof composite closure comprises inner and outer caps 8, 7 each having a respective annular skirt 16, 24 engaged with each other such that the caps are removed together. The outer cap 7 has a pull ring 20 connected to an outer annular portion 18 of its top by a hinge and circumferentially spaced frangible bridges 23. The area of the outer annular portion 18 adjacent at least one side of the hinge is thinned at 32. The thinned area(s) also extend(s) into the hinge. After the bridges 23 have been ruptured by an initial pull, continued pulling stretches the area(s) 32 such that the closure cannot be replaced with its pull ring flat. The cap 7 is of polyethylene and the cap 8 of aluminium. A sealing gasket 14 is provided in a channel of the inner cap which also has a bowed top 11 that flexes downwardly upon vacuum closure. The pull ring has a finger grip 21 and the outer cap has circumferentially spaced inner projections 27 on its skirt to engage a container neck shoulder 28.
