Abstract

1431563 Dental implants VITREDENT CORP 26 Feb 1973 [24 Feb 1972] 9407/73 Addition to 1295966 Heading A5R A dental implant 12 to form the root of an artificial tooth has at least its surface which engages the jaw on insertion made of an isotropic microcrystalline carbon material e.g. vitreous or pyrolytic carbon material and is formed with one or more ridges extending round the implant, at least a portion of the surface of the implant being roughened. As described the implant has a plurality of ridges 24 with corresponding grooves 26 and has its surface portions 22, 32 roughened by sand blasting. The implant may be substantially rectangular in cross-section and one or more enlarged grooves may be provided in the surface 22 to provide a zone into which the rate of bone and tissue growth is enhanced. The implant has a keyed aperture 18 in which a sleeve 34 is cemented and receives a pin 36 seoured to or formed with a crown 14. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1305478 and 1320655.
