Abstract

1473815 Flash-bulbs GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 6 March 1975 [21 March 1974] 9456/75 Heading G2L A non-filament flash-bulb has leads 13, 14 extending into the bulb through a pinch seal and into an insulating, e.g. glass member 18 within the bulb, member 18 having an opening 19 therethrough located between and in communication with leads 13, 14 the opening being filled with priming material electrically bridging the leads for igniting combustible material within the bulb. The arrangement is such that the combustible material cannot short-circuit the leads, the former on ignition is ejected from the opening 19 and contact between partially burned combustible material and the wire ends is minimized. To the latter end, the opening may be of narrower cross-section at the end facing the combustible material, Figs. 7 to 9 (not shown). Short circuiting by debris may also be prevented by an insulating sleeve round one lead wire, Fig. 5 (not shown) or the member 18 may extend downwardly and partially around the lead wires, Fig. 6 (not shown). One lead wire may extend into contact with the combustible material, providing earthing and minimizing the likelihood of electrostatic ignition, Fig. 4 (not shown).
