Abstract

1308532 Welding helmet lamp K ELLINGSEN 28 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 25784/70 Heading G2J A helmet 1 for use with conventional welding apparatus 11 includes a window 3 provided with protective glass, and an electric lamp arrangement 5 provided with a lead 6 for parallel connection 7, 8 of the lamp with the arc current supply 10 of the welding apparatus. The lamp thus draws current from the supply 10 and will illuminate the welding area when the electric arc 15 is not ignited, but will be extinguished when the arc is lit since this then draws all the current from the supply. A mercury switch 16, Fig. 2 (not shown) may be included in series with the lamp to make or break the contact between lamp and supply (when the arc is not lit) according as the helmet is in a vertical Fig. 1 or horizontal position so that the lamp can only shine when the helmet is in the operative position. The lead 6 is connected to the current supply cables 9 by electrically conducting clips 8, Fig. 3 (not shown) having spikes (18) which pierce the insulating layers on the cables to penetrate their conducting cores.
