Abstract

1446011 Cutting apparatus THOMAS BEECROFT & CO Ltd 22 Jan 1974 [17 April 1973] 18441/73 Heading B4B A band knife cutting machine for severing carpet pile 37 between backings 39, 41 of a double ply broadloom carpet comprises an endless band knife 7, guide plates 11, 13 supporting the upper run of the knife which contacts the pile during a severing operation, and a further pair of guide plates 21, 23 to guide the carpet to the knife. The knife guide plates 11, 13 are supported by a beam, rollers 17 being provided on the guides for supporting the rear edge of the blade during cutting. The knife passes over pulleys 5 located in separate housings 3, 4; one housing may be adjustable relative to the other in order to tension the knife. The linear speed of the knife may be varied to suit various materials. A pair of guide plates 21, 23 are located upstream of the knife edge for guiding the carpet, the spacing between the plates being adjustable to suit various thicknesses of carpet.
