Abstract

566,335. Cutting-machines for leather, fabrics &c. STIRLING TEXTILE INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and FRANKLIN, W. T. June 15, 1943, No. 9541. [Class 31 (i)] A machine for cutting broad material, such as felt or leather, into strips is constructed of a number of disc-shaped knives 1 mounted in adjustably spaced relation on a shaft 2 and coacting with a roller 3 formed of a fibrous material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Xylonite," the roller 1 being mounted in bearings 12 which are adjusted by screw mechanism to cause the knives to cut through the material 4 and into the periphery of the roller 3 to form shallow grooves 5. The material is fed from a roll 9 by means of friction rollers 8, which are adjustably spring-mounted, and guide rolls 11 and a winding spindle 10 are provided. The feed of the material is assisted by driving the rollers 1, 3 in opposite directions by a crossed belt 28 passing over a tensioning pulley 31. The roller 1 is geared by a belt 34 to the upper roller 8 and the roller 3 by a belt 37 to the lower roller 8. A main driving motor drives the shaft of either of the rollers 1, 3 or 8. The knives 1 are secured at adjustable distances apart by means of screws 7, and the cutters 1 are secured between clamps in such manner that only relatively narrow portions thereof are unsupported.
