Abstract

1336341 Vehicle seats WINGARD Ltd 29 June 1972 [3 July 1971] 31261/71 Headings A4J, A4U In a resiliently mounted vehicle seat in which movement of the seat relative to the vehicle is accommodated by a telescopic stay 4, connected between the seat and the vehicle floor, the length of the stay is prevented from increasing on sudden deceleration of the vehicle by co-operation of a panel 10 pivotally connected to the part 9 of the stay connected to the vehicle floor with ratchet teeth 7 on the part 6 of the stay connected to the seat. The pawl 10 has two weights 11 attached thereto, the disposition of the weights being such that only a deceleration of the vehicle greater than a predetermined value causes the weights to pivot forwardly past a vertical position and therefore the pawl to engage the teeth 7. In a second embodiment the locking member is a toothed plate 19 connected through pin and slot connections 20, 21 to the part 14 of the stay connected to the vehicle floor. Engagement of the toothed plate 19 with the ratchet teeth 18 is effected on deceleration greater than a predetermined value by a striker 26 which strikes a loop 24 on a control rod 23 connected to the plate 19 such that the plate 19 rides on the pins 21 into engagement with the ratchet teeth 18.
