Abstract

1,042,765. Tilting-cab locking devices. BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO. Ltd. June 3, 1964 [May 21, 1963; July 18, 1963; Aug. 28, 1963], Nos. 20102/63, 28449/63 and 34018/63. Heading E2B. A locking mechanism for a tilting cab 10 on a vehicle comprises a locking member 12 in the form of a hook which is adapted to hold the cab 10 down on its seating 11, a crank 13 to which the locking member is pivoted, the pivoted axis of the locking member and the axis of angular movement of the crank being spaced apart. In the locked position the pivot of the locking hook is directly above the pivot of the crank. At its lower end the locking hook embraces a horizontal pin or keeper 14 mounted in a cross-bar 15 on the chassis. The crank consists of two parallel plates between which the locking hook is suspended each plate having a slot 17 radial to the crank pivot. The slot is slidably engaged by a pin 18 on the lower end of a link 19 pivoted at its upper end to an operating lever 20. The locking hook is biased towards the keeper by a light torsion spring. As the operating lever is moved to the right, the locking hook is first lowered away from the keeper and the crank is turned until an abutment 21 engages the hook so that in the final movement of the operating lever the locking hook is swung clear of the keeper. The locking device also includes a safety hook 22 pivoted to the cab and adapted to engage a keeper 24 on the chassis. The safety hook is released by a pull rod 25 which can only be operated after the locking hook has been operated. As the cab is lowered on to the seating 11 for resecuring, the hook moves below the keeper so that on moving the operating lever to the left, the hook engages the keeper and pulls the cab down and the chassis up against the resistance of the seating 11. In a second embodiment (Figs. 3-6, not shown) the locking hook is pivoted on a pin which slides in an arcuate slot in two plates welded to the cab. The locking hook is flanked by two plates pivoted on two trunnions.
