Abstract

1328590 Ice-making VENDO CO 22 Dec 1971 [25 June 1971] 59628/71 Heading F4H Ice scraped from the wall of a cylindrical freezing chamber 32 by an auger 38 is discharged through an upper outlet 44 for compaction and drying by forced flow through an extrusion head 16 into an insulated hopper 18 having a melt water drain 58. The extrusion head comprises sections 62, 64 secured together to define a chamber 68 receiving ice from the outlet 44 and radial extrusion passages 70 of outwardly decreasing cross-sectional area through which the ice is passed by a cam 74 secured for rotation with the shaft 40 of the auger 38. The crosssectional area of the chamber excluding the cam is greater than that of the outlet 44, and also has a volume at least as great as the volume of ice discharged by one revolution of the cam in order that the power and strength of the auger is not substantially increased to operate the extrusion head. An ice breaker and agitating assembly 86 may be secured on top of the shaft 40 for rotation therewith.
