Abstract

1,144,184. Moulding cement briquettes by extrusion. POLYSIUS O.H.G. 8 Nov., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965], No. 49955/66. Heading B5A. Cement briquettes 18 are formed by the extrusion, through orifices 16 of a plate 15 provided on a stationary cylindrical casing 1, of a cement slurry fed to plate 15 within a pair of channels (5), (Fig. 3, not shown), provided around the periphery of a drum (3) which rotates within the casing 1 and is supplied via a feed opening 12 therein; a scraper 13 fixed to the housing 1 extends into the channels 5 to divert the feed therefrom to the plate 15 and water is extracted from the slurry into the interior of the drum (3) through holes (6), provided in the side walls and the bases of the channels (5), by the pressure built up in the channels (5) and which pressure may be assisted by vacuum applied to compartments 7 in the interior of the drum (3), via a hollow shaft 2. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 4-6, not shown), the slurry is fed to the channels (5) at housing enlargements (21) via baffles (20) provided in a space between the sides of the rotating drum (3) and the ends of the stationary casing to which space the slurry is supplied; the side faces of the drum may also be provided with water extraction holes and these may also be provided in the stationary casing.
