Abstract

196,947. Sizer, A. W., and Sizer, S. R. Nov. 3, 1921. Extrusion machines for moulding meal &c., of the type in which the material fed to the inside of a cylinder C is extended hy a pressing element through radial ports c and is subsequently cut off by knives g<2>, g<3> mounted on a rotatable ring G, the surfaces D<1> of the pressing element are formed eccentric with its centre of rotation and rotate in contact with the interior of the cylinder. The pressure element comprises two members D, D' formed in one piece, or pivoted separately to a central block piece f, Fig. 4, in a shaft F rotated through bevel gearing from a shaft K. The members D, D' are curved from front to back so as to form a gradually dimminishing space between their peripheries and the inside of the drum, and may be provided with removable wearing pieces. The drum C is mounted on a base piece B made hollow to allow provision of a heating or cooling medium, and is covered with a ring E having an annular wall e, which supports a ring G carrying the cutting knives g<2>, g<3> and rotated by the shaft E. The material is fed through the ring G and is distributed by a cone H, wearing rings J, J<1> being provided on both sides of the pressure element. In a modification, Fig. 6, the pressure, element is stationary on a pillar N, whilst the drum C is rotated by a hollow shaft O.
