Abstract

1320588 Electro-photographic fixing device INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 17 Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969] 59913/70 Heading G2H [Also in Division G1] A heat fixing device comprises two rollers 24, 25 (or endless belts 34, 35) Fig.3, (not shown) having elastomeric coatings 28, 30; roller 25 having the harder coating so as to deform roller 24, and at least roller 24, having a heater 27. The rollers are forced together, preferably by air from a piston 29. Roller 24 comprises an infrared (or resistance) heater 27, a copper or aluminium tube 26 and a silicon rubber coating 28. Roller 25 comprises a silicon rubber coating 30 on a spindle 31. The temperature may be controlled by a thermistor-Wheatstone bridge circuit Fig.6, (not shown). Preferred values of temperature, pressure, speed, hardness, wattage and roller dimensions are given. A method is described for testing the hardness of the image after fusing (see Division G1).
