Abstract
1318158 Anthraquinone KOPPERS CO Inc 24 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 39736/71 Heading C2C Anthraquinone is produced by oxidation of dihydroanthracene with aqueous nitric acid in an inert solvent for dihydroanthracene, under agitation at elevated temperature. It is preferred to mix the solution of dihydroanthracene with a stoichiometric excess of aqueous HNO 3 at a temperature below the boiling point of the mixture and then heat to reflux. A preferred solvent is chlorobenzene.
