Abstract
1308194 Thermal switches K FISCHER 23 April 1970 [23 April 1969] 19414/70 Heading H1N An energy regulator, for a hot plate &c., comprises a capsule 16 acting on contacts 13, 14 and connected by a-conduit 18 to a chamber 19 filled with expansible fluid and heated by the current flowing through the contacts. The chamber may be heated by passing the current through the wall thereof; the contacts and the chamber may then be connected in series by the capillary tube 18 connecting the chamber to the capsule. The hot-plate may be in series or parallel with the chamber (Figs. 2, 5, respectively, not shown). The capsule is movable by an adjusting knob which also operates, through cams, a pair of isolating contacts 27, 28 which open the circuit in the zero position of the knob and a contact 29 which shorts out or disconnects the chamber 19 above the 70% position of the knob to reduce unnecessary heating. The capsule is connected to the knob by an ambient temperature compensating device comprising a brass tube 23 and an Invar (R.T.M.) rod 24 whose differential expansion is opposite to the expansion of the capsule. The compensating arrangement may be replaced by a bimetal (Fig. 6, not shown). The capsule may be connected to a bulb sensing the temperature of the hot-plate so as to act also as a thermostat.
