Abstract
1,088,167. Thermal switches. ROBERTSHAW CONTROLS CO. Nov. 2, 1964 [Dec. 9, 1963], No. 44553/64. Heading H2B. [Also in Divisions F2 and G1] A temperature responsive device for actuating two components, e.g. a valve 24 and a switch 120, comprises a cylinder 140, e.g. of a plastics material, rubber, or microcrystalline wax enclosed by an annular sealing piston, differential expansion between the cylinder 140 and tube 30 actuating the switch 120. The cylinder 140 bears directly on the movable contact arm 122 of the switch. The switch 120 is arranged in circuit with a solenoid and a thermocouple, the hot junction of which is disposed in a pilot flame for a burner. The current provided by the thermocouple energizes the solenoid if the pilot is alight and the switch 120 closed. An elastomeric skirt 134 surrounds the movable contact and extends over the fixed contact of the switch 120. The switch contacts are preferably gold plated.
