Abstract

1399730 Washing and rinsing machines CTC AB 21 Aug 1972 [23 Aug 1971] 38936/72 Heading D1A An elongated washing drum divided into sections through which laundry progresses as the drum is rotated is provided with an internal baffle 18 with an aperture 19 of for example 40-60% of the drum diameter to control the flow of laundry and with external buckets 14 which lift washing liquor from chambers 11, 12, 13. The drum is mounted on rollers 23 in a housing, the inlet end 10a of which may be lifted above or lowered below the output end about a pivot 21 by a device 22. To limit mixing of the liquids in the prewash, main wash and rinsing sections part 25 of the wall of the drum is perforated in each section (Fig 2). Each bucket 14 includes a radial wall 29 extending into a perforated section 27 (Fig 2) of the associated lifter 26 and as the drum is alternately rotated in opposite senses lifts liquid from below the drum and discharges it at a higher level through the lifter apertures 27, onto the laundry the liquid then passing out of the drum through the apertures 25. In modifications the drum is tapered instead of having a baffle 18 and the buckets 14 are replaced by a fixed pipe system for supplying liquids.
