Abstract

1397838 Grinding wheel spindles BANDO KIKO CO Ltd 25 Oct 1972 49227/72 Heading B3D A grinding spindle support assembly, e.g. for a glass plate edge grinding machine comprises a support member 12 mounting the spindle 10 in at least one bearing 13, resilient members 15 attached to the support member 12, holders 14 for the resilient members 15, and means 17 for clamping the resilient members 15 to the holders 14 through interposed friction rings 19. The members 15, e.g. of silicone rubber, are located in grooves 16 of the support member 12, the holders 14 being fixed to a frame 20 of a wheel mount B supported on a guide rail 28 of a bed 27. The clamping members 17 are screwed to the holders 14 to clamp the friction rings 19 against pressure rings 18 engaging the resilient members 15, allowing deflection of a grinding wheel 11 in engagement with a plate 21 being ground. The plate 21 is supported above a profile plate 22 by vacuum chuck means 23 driven from a motor 44, movement of the mount B by a feed screw 31 being controlled through a cam follower 25 co-operating with the plate 22.
