Abstract

1391523 Two-part couplings FUTTERS (LONDON) Ltd 4 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 20917/72 Heading H2E A coupling part comprises a housing 2 containing an insulator in which contacts are mounted, and a latch 8 secured to the outer surface of the housing and consisting of a spring portion 9, a hook portion 11 and a finger-engaging portion 10 intermediate the hook and spring portions. In the plug shown, a screw 7 holds the latch 8, housing 2 and insulator together with the finger portion 10 accommodated in a recess or aperture in the housing 2 and a cable protector 4 extends from the insulator. In use the hook portion 11 enters a groove (15) and engages within an aperture (13) when the plug is mated with a complementary socket (5, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), which is wall mounted and has forked contacts for mating with those of the plug shown. In another embodiment, (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), the housing of the plug is extended to form a shield (3) surrounding the contacts and thus is received in an annular recess of a socket which is carried at the end of a cable. A rib (not shown), on the plug mates with a groove (not shown), on the socket to ensure correct alignment.
