Abstract

1371978 Liquid fuel burners CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES-CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 11 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 57090/72 Heading F4T A method of injecting liquid fuel into a high temperature environment via a burner having an inner conduit 1 and an outer conduit 2 constituting the outer envelope of the burner, comprises supplying the liquid fuel through the peripheral passage between the conduits 1 and 2 and an atomizing gas along the inner conduit, the fuel flowing at a mean speed of at least 7 cm./ sec. so that the burner is cooled thereby. Both conduits 1, 2 may be cylindrical or one or both may be convergent in the direction of fuel flow, or the inner conduit may have an outlet in the form of a Laval tube 5 as shown, the end of the outer conduit then being closed and the, fuel flowing through inclined bores 6 to the burner outlet. The atomizing gas may be air or oxygen, or a fuel gas, or a gas which does not support combustion in which case a supply of combustion supporting gas is provided in the vicinity of the burner outlet and is entrained by the atomized fuel mixture.
