Abstract

1370704 Carbon black pelleting CABOT CORP 6 Nov 1972 [15 Nov 1971] 51134/72 Heading C1A In pelleting carbon black, a portion of the water necessary to complete pellet formation is added to the black whilst it is vigorously agitated under conditions of high rate of shear, the conditions being such as to avoid the formation of unwetted dust on the one hand and excessively wetted large agglomerates on the other, the black is then passed to a conventional pelleting mill and the necessary water added to complete pellet formation. Preferably 3 to 75% by volume of the necessary water is added during vigorous agitation. High rate of shear is defined in the Specification as agitation at speeds in excess of 550 revolutions/minute.
