Abstract
1,233,788. Carbon black pellets. JONES GAS PROCESS CO. Ltd. 28 Aug., 1969 [20 Sept., 1968], No. 44890/68. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C3] Carbon black pellets containing a saponified rosin are made by pelleting loose carbon black in presence of a liquid medium comprising water containing a saponified rosin, and drying. The saponified rosin may be mixed with water immediately before contact with the carbon to avoid precipitation of insoluble rosinates. Alternatively, softened water may be used. Examples describe the preparation of thermal black pellets containing up to 0À5% by wt. of sodium abietate and rubber compositions containing them. The pellets have improved sphericity and particle size distribution. In a comparative example, thermal black is pelleted with 0À5% by wt. of molasses.
