Abstract

1358291 Lubricant antioxidants BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 22 Dec 1971 [18 Jan 1971 12 Aug 1971 7 Sept 1971] 2350/7137868/71 and 41589/71 Heading C5F Lubricants comprise a base oil and an antioxidant composition consisting of (i) a diamine of formula A 2 N-B-NHA and (ii) an alkali metal derivative of an amine of formula where A is a benzene nucleus p-substituted with a C 4 -C 9 t-alkyl group and B is a benzene nucleus substituted in the para portion with respect to the -NH group, with a tertiary alkyl group having 4-9 carbon atoms, and n is 0, 1 or 2. The alkali metal derivative may be prepared by heating an excess of the amine with the metal or a hydride thereof. The oil may be mineral or synthetic (liquid, neutral, polyesters being exemplified).
