Abstract
A lubricant for use in the non-cutting shaping of metals comprises an alkylation residue obtained in a process for the mono-alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons to introduce an alkyl group having at least 8 carbon atoms, or a product obtained from such a residue by distillation. The preferred residue is that from the alkylation of benzene with propylene tetramer. The residue may be mixed with up to 50% by weight of a mineral oil fraction such as kerosene to reduce its viscosity.
