1349206 Radiator caps SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 13 May 1971 [13 May 1970] 14709/71 Heading B8T [Also in Divisions F2 and F4] A radiator filler cap incorporating an overpressure and underpressure valve arrangement comprises a moulded one piece cover 1 of thermoplastic material having a peripheral flange from which locking projections 10, 11 extend inwardly to engage an outwardly extending flange 12 on the filler pipe 2. The cover 1 also has an annular resilient flange 34 which bears against the inner face of the filler pipe, and a central stud 20 supporting a double valve assembly which is urged towards a retaining head 21 on the stud 20 by a spring 27. The valve body 23 has a slot 24 which enables the valve assembly to be placed over the head 21. Mounted below the valve body 23 is a resilient diaphragm 30 having an inturned peripheral flange 30a engaging the rim 28 of the valve body, and a central boss 31 which normally closes an aperture 32. Apertures 33 are provided in the diaphragm 30. The spring 27 extends between a bearing surface 19 on the cover 1 and a collar 37 slidably mounted on the valve body 23. In the case of an overpressure in the radiator, the diaphragm 30 and valve body 23 are displaced upwardly against the pressure of the spring 27 so that fluid can pass to an overflow duct 36. In the case of an underpressure, the pressure acting on the boss 31 will cause the diaphragm to flex away from the valve body 23 and open aperture 32 so that air can enter the radiator via apertures 32 and 33.
