Abstract

1,232,741. Pipe joints. WAVIN N.V. 5 March, 1969 [11 March, 1968], No. 11585/69. Heading F2G. A tube connection comprises a thermoplastics male tube part 4, 5 and a thermoplastics female tube part 3 retained in a circumferential groove 8 in the male part by a heat shrunk thermoplastics ring 9. The female tube part is a coupling sleeve receiving the male parts 4, 5 of two thermoplastics tubes 1 and 2. Each male part 4, 5 is glued to the end of the respective tube 1, 2 with or without an interposed sealing ring 6. A pair of sealing rings 7 seated in grooves in each male part ensure fluid sealing between the male part and the sleeve. The ring 9 and sleeve are initially heated and expanded to receive the male parts, and the ring subsequently reheated to a temperature above the expansion temperature to cause the ring to shrink and retain the sleeve in the groove 8. A suitable thermoplastics for the various components is polyvinylchloride.
