Abstract

1,231,357. Pneumatic conveying. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 30 Oct., 1969 [4 Nov., 1968], No. 53294/69. Heading B8A. A device for conveying powder 6a from a chamber 6 via a feed tube 16 and exit conduit 18, comprises an aspirator tube 15 in the chamber and having its nozzle adjacent the inner end of the feed tube 16, the aspirator being supplied with pressurized gaseous fluid whereby powder is drawn from the chamber into the feed tube for discharge. The aspirator tube 15 is axially movable by a pneumatic ram 22 for engagement with the feed tube 16 when the feed tube is to be purged with gas. The chamber 6, which is vibrated, includes a porous bed 13 through which gas is supplied to fluidize the powder, further gas being supplied above the powder level. The upper end of the feed tube 16 may be provided with contoured apertures through which the fluidizing gas is drawn from the chamber with the discharging powder. The level of the powder in the chamber is controlled through a level-sensing device 12 which actuates in sequence, valves of an airlock device in a powder supply line between the chamber and a storage container.
