Abstract

1,091,006. Pneumatic conveyers; packaging machines. ALLEN TRANSMATIC Ltd. July 11, 1966 [Aug. 20, 1965], No. 35756/65. Headings B8A and B8C. In a method of filling containers with powder, the powder is fed in measured quantities from a hopper 2 into a chamber 3 having porous walls through which compressed air is pumped via a pipe 5 to fluidize the powder and facilitate its dispensing through a delivery nozzle 4 before recharging the chamber with another measured charge. Again, the top of the chamber (3), Fig. 2 (not shown), may be closed by a lid (8), the powder being fed from a hopper (2) through a rotary valve (10), and the compressed air providing a discharge pressure in addition to fluidizing the powder. In a further alternative, the powder is fed from a bulk supply hopper (13), Fig. 4 (not shown), via a rotary metering valve 14. A preferred form of delivery nozzle (15), Fig. 5 (not shown), includes a central tube (17) surrounded by an annular space connected to an outlet (18) for the air displaced from the container (16) and provided with a filter (19).
