Abstract

1,231,230. Reciprocating conveyers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 6 Nov., 1969. [8 Nov., 1968; 21 March, 1969], Nos. 52957/68 and 14896/69. Heading B8A. [Also in Division E1] Debris from the floor of a roadway 4 of a mine is conveyed from the floor and packed into the goaf 10 by a series of simultaneously-acting reciprocating conveyers 20. Each conveyer comprises a guide frame 22 connected to a reciprocable member 24 by a double-acting ram 25, the member 24 pivotally supporting flights 26 whose positions on the member 24 are controlled by rams 28, 29. In operation, the flights first push the debris towards the goaf 10 and are then caused to pivot so as to ride over the debris. The surface area of each flight decreases the further the conveyer is from the roadway 4 and thus a major part of the debris is pushed into the pack area of the goaf. Plates 13, 27 prevent spreading of the debris. As the packing proceeds, the conveyers 20 are continuously advanced with roof supports 6. By reversing the direction of operation of the conveyers 20 and extending the conveyers, the goaf 11 on the other side of the roadway 4 may be packed with debris. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), flights (36) are linked to a chain, rope or rigid rod (37) which, when reciprocated by rams (38, 39) causes pivoting of flights (36). A further modification, Fig. 6, comprises a reciprocable member 50 having a series of triangular-shaped units 52 which, when moving in the conveying direction, present steeply inclined surfaces 60 to the debris which moves further into the goaf 10. In the non-conveying direction the debris slides over less steeply inclined surfaces 58 of the units 52. To pack the debris more densely, a frame 46 on which the units 52 are mounted may also be reciprocable in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction. The units 52 may be caused to move with a higher velocity in the non-conveying direction. The single conveyer 44 may be replaced by a series of conveyers which operate in step with each other.
