Abstract

1,206,209. Ships' sterns. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 20 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 39860/68. Heading B7A. A large single screw ship has a hull 1, the undersurface of which has an upward incline 11 towards the stern end from a location 4 (e.g. the forward end 3 of the aft housed engines room 2) forward thereof, a propeller shaft carrying a propeller 9, 16, the outer tips of the blades thereof when rotating describing a locus contained above the plane of the incline. The rudder 6, 17 may be supported either as shown or on a cantilever shaft from above. Supplementary fins 12, 15 may be fitted to assist in stabilization and control of the ship. The line 8 of the shaft from the engine to the propeller may be inclined to the horizontal 10 as shown.
