Abstract

1,227,354. Marine propulsion. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 10 May, 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 7895/67. Heading B7V. A marine propulsion unit comprises a duct 1 containing a propeller and vanes 3, 4 aft of the propeller, the vanes being asymmetrical about the vertical plane containing the propeller axis. Port vanes 3, starboard vane 4 and central vertical vane 5 are secured between boss 2 and duct 1. The propeller is right-handed and fourbladed. The angles between the vanes are preferably unequal to and not multiples or factors of blade separation angles. The vanes are plate-like, of aerofoil section or twisted and are upwardly inclined in the forward direction. The duct may be steerable.
