Abstract

1294279 Adaptor for modifying a firearm H C PALMER 8 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 19482/71 Heading F3C An adaptor 10 for modifying a single or multiple-shot firearm to fire a blank cartridge of smaller diameter than the bore 26 of the firearm comprises a cylindrical body 12 of the same diameter as the bore of the firearm, the body 12 having a bore 18, which may be eccentric and receives the cartridge therein and having an axial chamber 20 which communicates with said bore 18 and with a tubular extension 14. The latter has a bore 32, apertures 36 in its wall and has a lip 38 having a probe 16 mounted therein. The probe is retained by an integral flange 40 thereof and by a C-shaped member 44 fixed in an annular groove 42 of the probe. In use a dart projectile 24 is inserted into a chamber 22 of a firearm barrel 23 and a blank cartridge is inserted into the bore 18 of the adaptor 10. When the cartridge is fired the gas formed by the exploding charge expands into the bore 20 and into the extension 14. The gas then flows at a controlled rate through the holes 36 in the extension 14 and enters the chamber 22 to launch the dart projectile 24 from the bore of the firearm.
