Abstract

1,264,794. Endless conveyers. C. M. BATHGATE. 29 April, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 21179/68. Heading B8A. [Also in Division B7] An assembly for driving an overhead conveyer chain comprises a flexible elongate member, e.g. a driving chain 11 adapted to be driven along the length of the conveyer chain when wound by and between rotatable wheels, e.g. sprockets 10, the elongate member 11 being fitted with spaced pivoted shoes 16 such that in use the leading end of the shoe 16 being wound of one of the wheels 10 abuts a link 1 of the conveyer chain and thereafter the shoe 16 pivots into driving engagement with the conveyer chain. As shown, the driving chain 11 comprises links pivotally connected to one another by pivot pins (14) so as to be capable of pivoting movement in the vertical median plane of the chain 11 and the sprockets 10. The conveyer chain has alternate horizontally and vertically disposed links 1h and 1v, respectively, and in use the leading end of shoe 16 which is provided with a recess 17 abuts an upwardly directed surface of the rear part of a vertical link 1v and the trailing end 18 of shoe 16 which is provided with a recess 19 then pivots downwardly into driving engagement with a rearwardly directed surface of the horizontal link 1h behind the vertical link 1v, a groove 20 being provided in the end 18 for the reception of part of the vertical link 1v<SP>1</SP> behind horizontal link 1h. A fixed abutment rail 22 extends between the sprockets 10 above the driving chain 11 defining with the conveyer chain a passage for the driving chain 11, the abutment rail 22 thereby maintaining the shoes 16 in driving engagement with the conveyer chain.
