Abstract
1,261,649. Heat storage air-heating apparatus. POTTERTON INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 1 June, 1970 [10 June, 1969], No. 29372/69. Heading F4U. A storage heater comprises a heat storage mass 2 heated by resistance heating elements H1, H2 and H3 with "off-peak" electricity and an "on-peak" heating circuit supplying either a single element H3 or a resistance element in an air stream induced by a fan 4 over the heat storage mass, the "off-peak" electrical supply to the mass elements H1, H2, H3 is terminated when the mass achieves a predetermined temperature by manually adjusted thermostatically controlled contacts 18, and a switching means for the "on-peak" heating circuit is rendered inoperative when the temperature setting of the contacts is not positioned at or substantially at a maximum, by a cam 20 connected to the control knob 19 of the contacts 18 to close contacts 21 in the circuit when at the maximum setting. The fan motor speed is controlled by a threeposition switch 22 manually actuated by a knob 23. A thermally-sensitive switch 13 in the air stream from the fan is operative below a predetermined temperature to complete a series circuit to a coil 17 of a change-over relay to connect the electricity supply whether "on" or "off" peak to the heating element H3 The storage heater may be used with a small bore hot water circuit comprising an accelerator pump and a number of radiators, the circuit being adopted to extract heat from the electrically heated storage mass through the intermediary of a closed circuit gaseous medium and an associated heat exchanger.
