Abstract

1,130,277. Making tubes. SONOCO PRODUCTS CO. 15 Feb., 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 7364/67. Heading F2P. A non-rigid forming tube for glass fibres comprises at least one spirally wound ply 21, 23 of paper having a resin impregnated paper ply 32 spirally wound thereon. The fibres of the paper plies run longitudinally thereof so that the tube can be collapsed by a longitudinal folding (Fig. 5, not shown) and the angle of winding of the plies lies within the range 17 to 35 degrees. The ply 32 is impregnated by passage through a receptacle 34 containing a resin such as an acrylic resin in the form of an aqueous emulsion immediately prior to winding. The resin may be cured at room temperature or, more quickly, in an oven.
