Abstract

1306830 Collapsible tubes PATON CALVERT & CO Ltd 10 Sept 1971 [17 July 1970] 34649/70 Heading B8M [Also in Division F2] A collapsible tube, for use in the winding of glass filaments, is provided with a plurality of score lines or corrugations spaced circumferentially about the tube and extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube, the tube being formed from a plurality of plies of helically wound elongate strips, e.g. kraft paper, adhesively secured together. The tube for glass filament winding is cut from a length of the ply construction, collapsed to a flattened condition and then the score lines or corrugations are applied. In use, the glass filaments with a size applied to them are wound on the tube which is placed over a mandrel. The completed package is withdrawn from the mandrel and placed in an oven to cure the size. The package is then removed from the oven, the tube is collapsed radially along the score lines or corrugations and removed from the package.
