Abstract

1,124,148. Pistons. CROSS MANUFACTURING CO. (1938) Ltd. 4 Aug., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 45639/66. Heading F2T. A piston-and-ring assembly comprises a triangular section ring 14 housed in a V-section groove 11 in the piston 2 and a thin flat ring 8 which is housed in an adjacent piston groove 3 and exerts axial pressure on the ring 14 to urge it against, the lower inclined side 13 of the groove 11 and the cylinder wall 10. The radially outer parts 6, 7 of the groove 3 diverge outwardly. The ring 8, which in its free state may be flat or dished, is a close fit in the parallel inner parts 4, 5 of the groove 3 and bears radially against the wall 10 and axially against an upper face 17 of the ring 14.
