Abstract

1,117,777. Pistons. MARTONAIR Ltd. 17 Sept., 1965, No. 39673/65. Heading F2T. [Also in Division B3] A piston 14 is attached to a rod 10 by means of an annular ring of material 15 which is swaged into an annular groove 13 and into contact with a face of the piston. If the rod 10 is not stepped but of uniform diameter, the piston can be retained by a swaged ring on either side of the piston. To form a key between each ring and the rod the groove can be formed in straight chordal sections of a polygonal rather than circular shape. Similar grooves 19a, 19b, Fig. 3, can be formed in the piston 20 to produce a key between the rod and piston, or alternatively, radial grooves can be produced in the end wall or walls of the piston 14. A piston with a blind bore can be attached to a rod, by forming the bore adjacent its mouth with an inwardly directed groove.
