Abstract
1,114,794. Pivoted propeller shaft. J. H. BIRCH, and/F. SCOTT. 28 Feb., 1967 [22 June, 1966], No. 27829/66. Headings B7A and B7V. In a motor boat the bottom 1 of the hull is made with a rearwardly extending open-ended inverted channel 2 and the propeller shaft 7 extends through a tube 6 which towards its. front end is rockable about a transverse axis 7<SP>1</SP> and carries at its front end the engine 8 and at its rear end the propeller 11 and rudder 13, in an arrangement in which the tube 6 may lie in the channel 2 with the propeller periphery above the bottom line of the boat or at an angle to and with the propeller clear below the bottom of the boat, Fig. 2 (not shown). Means provided for holding the tube in each of its two positions comprise in the embodiment described a rod 16 pivotally connected to a flat member 14 which closes the bottom of an open-end enlargement 3 when the propeller is clear below the boat.
