Abstract

Apparatus for forming a so-called 'start' at the beginning of the winding of textile yarns on sleeves to form cylindrical cross-wound bobbins on a known type of winding machine with one or more yarn guides, on which the yarn to be wound-up is supplied from a point spaced from the traversing yarn guides and in a plane of symmetry perpendicular to the axis and inclined to the sleeve ends on which the 'start' is to be arranged, has a device over which the yarn is passed and supported on the side to which it will be displaced and which has sloping parts which can pivot between a position in which the yarn is wound on the end of the sleeve and a position in the working zone of the traversing yarn guide, after this device has taken up in succession a series of intermediate positions in which the yarn is wound to a 'start' on the sleeve.
