Abstract

1,193,808. Pipe joints. ORENSTEIN & KOPPEL A.G. 21 April, 1969 [19 April, 1968], No. 20334/69. Heading F2G. An annular, elastic sealing lip 7a disposed between flanges 2, 4 of pipes 1, 3 is secured, as by a clamping ring 8 to the flange 4 and is spaced from the surface 10 of the flange 2, the arrangement being such that occurrence of more than a certain pressure differential in a predetermined direction between the interior and exterior of the pipes presses the lip into sealing contact with the surface 10. To prevent the lip being held against the surface 5 of the flange 4 by suction a recess 12 is provided in the flange 4 and to which fluid penetrates. In modifications, (a) the lip 7a is disposed at the outer periphery of the flange 4 and, to prevent the lip being held against the flange, the latter has holes therethrough; and (b) there are two coaxial lips integrally connected and disposed at the inner and outer peripheries of the flange 4, and inner and outer recesses 12.
