Abstract

1,192,108. Controlling tension. J. SCHARER [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK SCHARBR], 6 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 42457/ 68. Heading D1D. Thread tension in automatically regulated on a tensioner having a rotating drum I provided with a surface of varying frictional properties, e.g. areas 13 and 14. The drum is rotated so that its circumferential speed is greater than the speed of the thread. A thread guide 5 is also provided and arranged to move relative to the drum 1 to cause axial displacement of the thread looped around the drum as the thread tension varies. As shown, the thread guide is a pivoted plastics-coated rod movable between stops against an adjustable spring. Instead of the intermeshing frictionally-different areas illustrated, the drum surface may have circumferentially extending strip-shaped frictionally different areas, or may have a roughness which gradually decreases toward on end of the drum.
