Abstract

918,717. Winding apparatus. MAYER TEXTILMASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H., KARL. March 10, 1961 [March 12, 1960], No. 8907/61. Class 120 (2). A mechanism for winding thread, especially covered rubber thread, in the form of a cylindrical cross spool, has a spool that is driven directly by a drum which is spring-influenced for axial movement in one direction, the extent of this movement being controlled by engagement of the drum with a conical end surface of the spool. In Fig. 1 a slotted drum 6 is biased by a spring 9 against the conical foot 2 of a spool 1. As the drum 6 rotates it turns the spool 1 and causes a slider 11, moving in slots 10 in the drum, to cross-wind thread on to the spool 1. As the diameter of the package increases the spool 1 is forced away from the drum 6 and the drum then moves to the left until it is again in contact with the conical foot 2. The result is a cross-wound package having a build at both ends that corresponds to the shape of the foot 2. In Fig. 4 a drum 19 turns the spool, the drum 19 being biased to the left against the conical foot of the spool. A reciprocating shaft 7a carries a retainer 23 on which is mounted an elongated eye 20 frictionally secured by a screw 22 to the retainer 23. Due to the reciprocating movement of the shaft 7a the eye 20 traverses the thread on to the spool. As the package increases in diameter the thread moves up the slot eye and thus creates an increasing turning moment that alters the inclination of the frictionally held needle 21, the initial tension of the thread being adjusted to ensure that the conical build-up of the ends of the package conforms to the shape of the coned end of the bobbin. As the package increases in diameter the spool axis moves away from the drum 19 and the drum 19 is then biased to the left until it is again in contact with the conical foot of the spool.
