Abstract
1,180,380. Charging coke ovens. HEINRICH KOPPERS G.m.b.H. 8 Jan., 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 1085/69. Heading F4B. In a coke oven charging car having a hopper 1 with a rotary disc 4 enclosed in a casing 3 and discharging through a tapering outlet to a charging trunk 8, a flap 13 is pivotally disposed in the outlet so that when the disc is rotating it lifts to allow passage of the coal and thereafter falls by its own weight to prevent escape of gases through the outlet into the hopper. The trunk 8 has a telescopic extension 9 seating over the charging hole 11 and a conduit 12 conveys escaping gases away during charging. The flap has a lever 15 attached to its spindle operating a magnetic switch 16 when the hopper is empty either to give a signal or to stop the disc drive. It is made in two overlapping parts (Fig. 2) of sheet iron or alternately of fabric, rubber or plastic which are sufficiently refractory to withstand the gases concerned.
