[Class 103 (iv)] [See also Groups XII and XXV] A coke-quenching wagon comprises a body 5 pivoted at 6 to a wheeled undercarriage 1 and provided with a floor 12 sloping downwardly towards the discharge door 15 at an angle less than the angle of repose of the coke, means being provided for tilting the body about its pivots to increase the slope of the floor 12 sufficiently for tipping out the coke. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the tilting means consists of two air cylinders 10, the pistons of which are connected to the body frame 4 by links 7<a>, there being provided additional links passing through the undercarriage and fitted with spring stops which limit the movement of the body in both directions. The door 15 is pivoted to the body at 16 and is connected by links 17 to brackets 18 on the undercarriage so that it is opened and closed automatically with the movements of the body. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the body is tilted by racks 24 pivoted at 25 and meshing with pinions 23 mounted on a shaft 22 driven from an electric motor. Links 7 passing through brackets 27 on the undercarriage and fitted with spring stops 11 limit the movements of the body. The floor and walls of the latter and the door 15 are built up of renewable iron or steel plates. The body 5 may be divided into compartments each having a separate discharge door, or a number of independently tiltable compartments may be mounted on a single undercarriage.
