Abstract

1,172,307. Pliers. MALLETTS (SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS) Ltd. 29 Nov., 1967 [13 March, 1967], No. 11670/67. Heading B4W. [Also in Division A5] A hand tool for removing a suture clip from a wound comprises two arms pivotally connected together wherein one of the arms is formed with a slot, the other arm is pivotally mounted within the slot and the slot terminates short of the tip of the said one arm, the tip portion of the other arm being received within the slot when the arms are closed and being of less width than the slot, forming thereby a substantial clearance between the sides of the slot and the sides of the tip portion of the other arm when the arms are closed. As illustrated in Figs. 1-3, instrument 10 comprises arms 11 and 12 which are preferably formed of stainless steel. Arm 11 is divided by slot 13 into limbs 14 and 15 which are connected together at tip 16, each limb being provided with a step 19; the tip and adjacent end portion are preferably angled relative to the remainder of the arm. Arm 12 has a flat tapered tip portion 17 the operative edge 18 of which is preferably serrated. The arms may be provided with co-operating steps (not shown) which prevent further closing together of the arms when the tip portion of one arm is located in the longitudinal slot of the other arm.
