Abstract

1,158,060. Securing railway rails. WELLMAN MACHINES Ltd. 12 March, 1968 [15 March, 1967], No. 12160/67. Heading E1G. A rail fastening clamp comprises (a) a bolt 14 secured to a sleeper or other base 12; (b) a locating body 19 having rail-abutting flanges 22 seating on the base 12 and a slot 23 permitting lateral adjustment; and (c) a pair of leaf spring clips 27 which seat on an inclined surface 24 of the body 19 and are located on opposite sides of the bolt 14 by grooves in the inclined undersurface 33 of a saddle 30. The inclined surfaces 24, 33 are parallel and provide a wedging action to prevent lateral shifting of the body 19 once it has been adjusted. As shown, the bolt 14 is non-rotatably located in a U-shaped collar welded to the base 12, but in a modification the bolt is directly welded to the base. A resilient rail pad 40 is provided.
