Abstract
1,149,440. Evaporators, film-type. ARTISAN INDUSTRIES, Inc. 4 Aug., 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 36021/67. Heading BIB. In an evaporator wherein a film of liquid is formed on the interior surface of a chamber 12 by means of a rotor shaft 28 and radial blades 38, the tips of the blades are attached to rings 42, 44 . . . 50, the outer periphery of each ring being flush with the outside edges of the blades. The chamber 12 is in part surrounded by heating-jacket 14. The liquid is supplied to the evaporator through inlet 16, the concentrated liquid flows out through outlet 18, and the vapour leaves through outlet 20. Rings 44 and 46 ensure that the liquid forms a thin film on the interior wall surface of chamber 12, while ring 48 aids the discharge of concentrated liquid from outlet 18. The forward edge of ring 48 may be inclined. Ring 42 prevents feed liquid from accumulating on head plate 26, while ring 50 prevents concentrated liquid from entering vapourchamber 22. Provision can be made so that the rotor is adjustable in an axial direction. The rings may be inclined at an angle to the plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Twisted blades may be employed.
