1,140,589. Epoxy resin compositions. MORTON INTERNATIONAL Inc. 13 Dec., 1966, No. 55713/66. Heading C3B. A solid particulate epoxy resin moulding composition comprises a homogeneous mixture of a solid epoxy resin prepolymer, a solid polycarboxylic anhydride curing agent and > 5% by wt. of the epoxy resin of a solid organo-zine compound which is the zinc salt of a C 2-20 carboxylic acid, a zinc salt of a dicarboxylic acid or a zinc alcoholate. The preferred compound is zinc stearate. The composition may also contain a solid particulate filler in a major amount based on the epoxy resin and curing agent. Another mould release agent may be present in addition to the zinc compound. The epoxy resin may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or of a novolac. The composition may be prepared by mixing together the epoxy resin, the curing agent and the organo-zinc compound and heating the mixture (e.g. at 200‹ F.) to prepolymerize the resin substantially short of complete cure; the mixture is cooled and ground to particles of the required size. The composition is shelf stable at room temperature but rapidly cures on heating, e.g. 300‹ F. for 5 minutes.
