1,022,567. Tunnel linings; tunnelling shields. KUMAGAI GUMI KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Oct. 24, 1963 [Nov. 9, 1962], No. 41937/63. Heading E1F. A segment of a steel tunnel lining ring comprises a pair of arcuate side members 2 end members a connecting the side members, a corrugated sheet 1 connected to the side members, and stiffening members 3 fixed to the side members and corrugated sheet. Although the segments forming a ring are not all of the same length, the stiffening members are evenly spaced about the ring. The stiffening members take up the thrust of the jacks advancing a tunnelling shield after excavation of a cavity in front of the shield.
