Abstract
Stainless steel after annealing by heat treatment e.g. at 1250-2100 DEG F., in a reducing atmosphere of hydrogen or cracked ammonia, is anodically polished using an aqueous solution of H3BO3 or an organic acid except acetic or formic acid, which are covered in the parent Specification. Suitable organic acids are citric, oxalic, mono-chloracetic, tartaric, benzoic or picric acid. The electrolyte is used at 40-120 DEG F. and at current density of 0.1-1.0 A.S. inch. The stainless steel in addition to chromium may also include other alloying metals e.g. Ni, Co, Cb, Mn, and Si.
